The only way to really know a tree is by the fruit it bares. That is why the Apostle Paul wrote in the book of Galatians: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law" (Gal. 5:22-23). Every seed produces after its own kind. Part of the mark of a winner is the type of fruit a Christian bares.

It is easy to love somebody that loves you, but to show love to someone in return for hatred requires you to put on the fruit of the Spirit. The purpose of the fruit of the Spirit is to give rather than take.
